OK, so it is Inventor Fusion re-labeled with some slightly different UI elements. The *.123d file extension... is just a new file extension for... *.dwg. Currently if you save a *.123d file and change the extension to *.dwg it opens fine in AutoCAD and probably most CAD programs that read dwg v2010.
I imagine at some point once the beta is done there will be a free version with limited file import/export and a paid for version with less restrictions. Something similar to how Sketchup opperates.
The current import/export options are limited to *.123D, *.dwg *.sat, *.stp/step, *.skp, *.obj, and *.123c
I found it intesting that there is no *.3dm import/export considering the models are nurbs geometry.
Overall, being based on Fusion, it is a very good program available for free (while it lasts...) and the content repository will hopefully grow with more users (most if not all content is Autodesk created at this point).
Drawbacks:
-Slight learning curve for marking/radial menu.
-Program is slow, really slow sometimes, especially compared to MoI3D.
-It's Autodesk, so I expect at some point a squeeze for money (nothing wrong with that, people should be paid for their work), but don't expect it to be completly free forever.
-What's up with the hard-to-make-out faces on the viewcube? What is more straight-forward than "Top, Bottom, Left, Right, Front, Back?"
One last observation: models are printable. I have not tried this out yet, and am not sure if I will, but I have seen the request here several times for print capabilities.

Es ist niecht zu fazzen , die schleimige glibberige (und behaarte!) Schrammelkröte wühlt sich wieder aus ihrem stinkenden Psychoschlamm und wirft mit Dreck nach mir , beleidigt ZAPPA und will unseren JEHOVAH schlöchtmachen , GONE DU ZECKE!

Any structure needs to be practically tested and compared. For example: I've already taken a strip of 1/2" Baltic birch plywood, put
this much weight on it and measured the deflection - it was 3 times more (nearly 1/4") than the "wing". 1/2" particle board fractured
when I attempted to place the first woofer and I don't think I need to say what would happen to just a double layer of 1/4" hardboard
when laid flat.

@You stated this was to be "Hardboard" have you considered using " Tempered Hardboard" Aka HDF ? That would alleviate some
of your concerns about moisture.
I can't find tempered hardboard in 1/4" thickness. This material is still HDF, just not tempered (tempering is coating the sheet in
linseed oil then baking it).

This worked very well on this shorter section but it would be a bit trickier on the long one - I'd have to drill holes to inject the foam at
the middle.
Each void of the long section has a volume of ~20 litres and it would be very expensive to fill these this way.
Since I've had zero luck finding a reasonably priced local source for this foam, I've gone ahead and ordered it from US Composites.
Their price is the best I've found so far - nearly 4 times less than the equal amount at a local supplier.
If I learned one thing from the sprayfoam filling, it's that this WILL work - my Gods how rigid is that section now!

@Rather than a tap test... I'd like to see the panels anchored and directly driven from the center by an exciter. Sweep and measure

@You can buy foam cores cut to size for very little and you do use an adhesive to attach the foam core to the skins.
@You will need to fill both sides at the same time, so mixing too much is probably a better option than too little, but it is an easy
calculation.

There is one "fix" for this (I think) and that is to consolidate the surface of the hardboard. A brushed on coat of clear polyurethane will
do this, as it penetrates the surface it does not break down (like oil paint would - the oil would be absorbed into the "wood" but the
binder resin would sit on the surface) and will cement the surface layer to the ones below. It also increases surface area for anything
glued on, as any stress on the part will be better spread across this thicker, harder surface.
